Usage & Billing FAQs

1. What does “minutes” mean on LawNeeds?

Minutes are the usage units for advanced features on paid plans (Standard and Premium). They are used when you send voice notes, upload images or documents, and generate legal documents with AI. Text chat with the AI is always unlimited on paid plans.

2. How are minutes calculated for voice notes?

Voice notes are charged based on their length. Time is rounded up to the nearest full minute (e.g. a 1 minute 20 second note = 2 minutes). Maximum length per voice note is 5 minutes on both Standard and Premium plans.

3. How are minutes used for image and document uploads?

Each image or document upload uses 1 minute. Standard users can upload files and images up to 25MB, alongside documents up to 8 pages. Premium users can upload files and images up to 50MB and documents up to 25 pages. Documents above the page limit must be split before uploading.

4. How many minutes does AI document generation use?

The cost depends on document length: Simple (1–2 pages) = 2 minutes; Complex (3–5 pages) = 4 minutes; Extensive (6–10 pages) = 6 minutes. You will be informed of the minute cost before generation and receive confirmation after.

5. What happens if I run out of minutes?

You can purchase top-ups (£1 = 1 minute, up to 30 minutes at a time) or upgrade your plan. You will receive alerts when you reach 85% of your balance. Unlimited text chat remains available on paid plans. Minutes top up start from £5.

6. Do unused minutes roll over?

Unused minutes roll over on Monthly and Annual plans when you renew under either the Standard or Premium subscription tiers. Weekly plans do not support roll-over.

7. What is included in the Free (Basic) plan?

Basic users receive limited AI text queries (6 every 6 hours) and access to pro-bono providers (subject to availability). During the first month, promotional access includes 2 voice notes, 2 uploads, and 2 AI document generations, with a 10MB image cap and 4-page document cap.

8. What is a “query” on LawNeeds?

A query is a single interaction where you ask the LawNeeds AI a question and receive a response. This includes initial questions and any follow-up prompts the AI requests to clarify your situation. On the Basic (Free) plan, queries are limited (e.g., 6 queries every 6 hours). On paid plans, text queries are unlimited and do not use your minutes (minutes are only used for voice notes, uploads, and AI document generation).

9. What is the Express (Daily Pass) plan?

The Express plan provides unlimited AI text queries for 24 hours. It does not include voice notes, uploads, or AI document generation, and minutes do not roll over.

10. Are lawyer consultations included in my subscription?

No. Lawyer consultations and casework are priced separately because they are regulated professional services. Your subscription covers AI legal guidance, document analysis, and lawyer matching, with consultation fees shown before booking.

11. Why does LawNeeds use a minute-based system?

The minute-based system ensures fair pricing based on processing effort, supports voice and document analysis, keeps plans affordable, and provides transparency and regulatory compliance. You can always see how minutes are used and your remaining balance.

12. What does Casework cover?

Casework which is delivered by a lawyer or advisor, covers end-to-end legal support for your immigration matter, including preparing and submitting applications, drafting legal documents,reviewing evidence, providing tailored legal strategy, liaising with the UK Home Office, and managing your case through to completion.

13. Can I set my own budget for legal services on LawNeeds?

Yes. You can set a budget and get matched with suitable legal professionals, ensuring flexible, transparent pricing tailored to your needs. This is only available for Ongoing Guided Legal Support & Casework.

14. Will I know and agree the final price before any legal work begins?

Yes. After you set your budget, the legal professional will either accept it or propose a revised fee for your approval, and once agreed, you’ll receive a secure payment link to complete payment before work begins.

15. What payment methods does LawNeeds accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) through Stripe, our secure payment processor. All transactions are encrypted and 100% secure.

16. Does LawNeeds provide appeal and tribunal representation services?

No. Current focus is on application-based immigration support and advisory services. More complex litigation matters such as appeals and tribunal representation are not currently supported on the platform.
